Spanish filmmaker Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego (“King of the Hill”) has stepped up to direct the sci-fi thriller “Apollo 18” for The Weinstein Company reports Deadline.
Trevor Caewood was originally attached to direct and use his own effects company to do the visual effects on the low-budget documentary-style feature which is being rushed to get it ready for cinemas by March 4th. However his company is busy on other projects and would have not been able to complete the effects on time.
As a result Caewood has bowed out and Lopez-Gallego takes over. “Wanted” director Timur Bekmambetov, who is producing the film, will handle the visual effects through his Moscow-based facility Bazelevs. Bekmambetov is said to be working hard on this project to get it ready for March, then he’ll shift his focus to directing “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” for Fox.
The film itself, a ‘found footage’ feature’, deals with Apollo 18’s undocumented and covert mission to the moon which reveals evidence of an alien life form. Brian Miller penned the script.
