SP International Pictures has scored the remake and sequel rights to an English language film adaptation of Koike Kazuo’s iconic 1970s Japanese comic book property “Lone Wolf and Cub.”
Koike Kazuo Gekiga Sonjuku, Inc. produced the 1993 feature “Lone Wolf and Cub: Final Conflict” and SP’s deal intends for them to film a remake of the property which will shoot next year.
In the film, a noble samurai is plotted against and framed in an assassination conspiracy. Disobeying his Shogun’s orders, he becomes an assassin for hire. ‘Lone Wolf’ has previously been adapted as six feature movies, four stage plays and a TV series.
Steven Paul, who is currently producing the Scarlett Johansson-led live-action remake of classic manga “Ghost In The Shell” for DreamWorks, will produce this film which will have an “essentially Japanese cast” .
