Lone Survivor-Style “Outpost” Optioned

“The Fighter” scribes Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson have optioned the film rights to CNN host Jake Tapper’s book “The Outpost: An Untold Story Of American Valor” which they plan to adapt.

The book deals with Combat Outpost Keating, one of America’s deadliest battles in Afghanistan. The October 2009 siege took place in an isolated Afghan province butting up against Pakistan and surrounded by mountains. 53 U.S. troops were attacked by over 400 Taliban insurgents.

It was later found that there was no good reason for the soldiers to have been placed there, but despite high casualties the troops thwarted the attack.

The film aims to mine the same political-free, courage-focused approach pulled off by “Lone Survivor” which has become a sleeper hit – especially in heartland America.
