Following four other announced series, the soon to launch DC Universe digital service is set to get a fifth with TV mega-producer Greg Berlanti producing a one-hour live-action series based on the DC/Vertigo comics title “Doom Patrol”.
A re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast superheroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl, and Crazy Jane who are all led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (aka. The Chief).
Each of the heroes suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose by investigating the weirdest phenomena in existence – and protecting Earth from what they find.
The characters will first make a brief appearance in the fifth episode of “Titans,” the flagship launch show of the DC direct-to-streaming service which will go up at the end of the year. The “Doom Patrol” series will follow some time in 2019 with the same actors including Bruno Bichir, April Bowlby, Jack Michaels, and Dwain Murphy.
The direct-to-series order of thirteen episodes will be written by “Supernatural” producer Jeremy Carver and will be executive produced by Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Jeremy Carver, and Sarah Schechter. The series will be Berlanti’s 14th scripted series on the air at the same time – a new TV record.
