Filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra is re-teaming with Liam Neeson for a third time in the action thriller “Run All Night” opening soon. Having just begun press rounds for that movie, it’s unsurprising that people have begun asking about how the long in the works live-action adaptation of animated classic “Akira” is progressing.
Collet-Serra came onboard when a previous incarnation of the project ran way over-budget. He was able to effectively reduce the cost of it by half, but more economic belt-tightening was required to make it work.
In an interview this weekend with Collider though, he admits “No, no. There’s nothing” when asked if any progress has been made on “Akira”. Is there any hope for the project? “It’s a Warner Bros. question.”
Collet-Serra is said to be taking some time off over the next few months and has no plans to do another film for a while.
