Acting legend John Lithgow and “Slumdog Millionaire” star Freida Pinto have joined the prequel “Rise of the Apes” for 20th Century Fox says the trades.
The story focuses on a scientist (James Franco) working on an Alzheimer’s cure being tested on apes. The test subject named Caesar evolves rapidly, forcing the scientist to take him home and live with him to protect him from cruel doctors.
Lithgow will play the scientist’s Alzheimer’s-stricken father while Pinto is a primatologist and the movie’s female lead.
Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa wrote the screenplay and are producing alongside Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark. Filming, under the helm of Rupert Wyatt, kicks off this summer in British Columbia.
