Lionsgate Plans “My Little Pony” Film

Lionsgate and Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures label are teaming to develop an animated theatrical feature based on the popular “My Little Pony” franchise.

“My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” animated series producer Meghan McCarthy is penning the screenplay. Kristin Chenoweth will voice a new character in the film which will be Hasbro’s first animated feature.

In the movie, a new dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6 – Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rarity – embark on a journey beyond Equestria to meet new friends and exciting challenges in order to save their home.

Tara Strong, Cathy Weseluck, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St. Germain and Ashleigh Ball will voice the main characters, while Jayson Theissen and both Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis are producing.

Starting in 1983, the toy line of colorful ponies with unique symbols has exploded into a pop culture phenomena that grossed over $1 billion in retail sales in 2014.
