On a conference call to discuss fiscal earnings, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told analysts this morning that filming on the sequel to “Now You See Me” beings in September.
Shooting will take place in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, with most of the original cast returning along with some new additions. Feltheimer says we “absolutely see it as a franchise. We’re going to add some cast to it. We see it as an ongoing situation.”
That isn’t the only property seen as a potential franchise though. Others include the film adaptations of the “Chaos Walking” book triloy, Alex Proyas’ ancient epic “Gods Of Egypt,” the Vin Diesel-led “The Last Witch Hunter” and the currently in post-produced Johnny Depp action caper “Mortdecai”.
The last one in particular there’s big plans for as the Johnny Depp is said to love the Charles Mortdecai character, an art dealer and Nazi gold hunter, and is keen to reprise it. Feltheimer sees a potential “Pink Panther”-style franchise in the property.
The timetable for the remaining films in “The Hunger Games” and “Divergent” trilogies remain unchanged.
