Nu Image/Millennium Films has made a US distribution rights deal with Lionsgate for a new film series based on the Robert E. Howard-created character “Conan the Barbarian” reports Variety.
The first film will be written by the team of Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (“Sahara,” “Cowboys & Aliens”) and is slated to begin production later this year.
Nu Image/Millennium are fully financing the project expected to cost around $100 million. Lionsgate hasn’t commented on its plans for casting, direction, or tone of the material.
Production will also depend on the resolution of the writers strike, but Nu Image/Mille are pursuing a interim agreement that would encompass this project.
