Liam Neeson To Play Watergate’s Deep Throat

Liam Neeson will star in “Felt,” a biopic about Mark Felt who was better known as the infamous informant Deep Throat during the Watergate scandal.

Peter Landesman, who directs the upcoming Will Smith NFL drama “Concussion,” will helm the project which Scott Free Productions, Playtone and Cara Films are backing and is said to have a spy thriller tone.

Felt was associate director of the FBI at the time of the early 1970s Watergate scandal which began when five men were arrested for breaking into the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. Their connection to President Richard Nixon led to his eventual resignation.

Felt, whose true identity came to light in 2005, leaked information to Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward. In the film he will be seen as someone disheartened that the organization he works for is involved in cover-up and who is torn apart as he leaks information.

Ridley Scott, Gary Goetzman, Tom Hanks, Giannina Scott, Marc Butan, Christopher Woodrow and Jay Roach will produce.
