Levy Replaces Berg On “Real Steel”

With Peter Berg having locked in his next two projects over at Universal, “Night at the Museum” director Shawn Levy has moved in to take the helm of DreamWorks’ futuristic robot boxing movie “Real Steel” says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story is set in a near future where human boxing has been outlawed, while heavy humanoid robots slug it out in the ring instead. Into this world step a father and his estranged teenage son who train an extraordinary fighter.

John Gatins (“Dreamer”) is writing the most recent draft of the screenplay previously worked on by Jeremy Leven (“The Notebook”) and Les Bohem (“The Alamo”) and originated by Dan Gilroy in 2003. Berg (“Hancock”) began circling the project earlier this Summer.

Levy, Don Murphy and Susan Montford are producing while Disney would distribute.
