Levy Backs Away From Way Back

Shawn Levy will now only produce, not direct, the coming-of-age dramedy “The Way Back” says The Hollywood Reporter.

The character-driven film, based on a script by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, centers on a teenage boy from a broken home who strikes up an improbable friendship one summer with the operator of a water park.

Originally slated to direct and produce for Fox Searchlight, the project has now moved to Mandate Pictures and Levy has left the helmer’s chair.

No new director has officially been attached, though Tom Bezucha (“The Family Stone”) was considered.
