The immediate future of the “Lethal Weapon” franchise is on television as FOX attempts to turn the big screen action series into a viable TV series this Fall – something that “Rush Hour” tried and failed to do earlier this year.
Warner Bros. Television is producing the series and says that though they are concentrating on the show now, a fifth film outing in the series is still possible. Executive producer Dan Lin says:
“There’s still potential for Lethal Weapon 5. The feature film, because of [showrunner] Matt [Miller]’s take on the show, they let us extend the series but there may be Lethal Weapon 5 in the future – but for now the focus is 100 percent on the TV series.”
In the series, Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford) suffers the loss of his wife and baby and moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans Sr.), who recently suffered a “minor” heart attack and must avoid any stress in his life.
Another change is Riggs who won’t be doing drugs in the TV version and says he aims for a more “grounded” approach with a “little more truth” to it.
