SNL and “Ghostbusters” star Leslie Jones has vowed that she will so a nude protest if NBC doesn’t renew the sci-fi series “Timeless” for a third season. Jones said in a tweet she will march nude in front of the network’s offices with a sign calling for a renewal.
Eric Kripke (“Supernatural”) and Shawn Ryan (“The Shield”) created the series about a scientist, a soldier and a history professor travel through time to pursue a fugitive intent on destroying America by attacking a generations-old sinister organisation known as Rittenhouse.
The show was famously cancelled after one season, the network cutting the series despite very good reviews and a strong fanbase. It was then almost immediately they changed their minds after a huge fan backlash, though the network says it was the resolution of some financial challenges that allowed its return.
The show’s second season finale aired on Sunday night to a modest ratings spike, the show has only averaged 4.2 million viewers and a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 this season including DVR playback – less numbers than other cancelled NBC series like “The Brave” and “Rise”.
The show’s fate is still undetermined at this point – no decision was revealed at the network upfronts this week. Kripke retweeted Jones’ tweet and added: “Hey #Clockblockers. Fingers crossed. But whatever our ratings are, whatever happens, I’m SO PROUD and GRATEFUL to you all. You all showed up in fierce force. Thank you. You kick ASS. #Timeless #RenewTimeless @NBCTimeless.”
