Producer Avi Lerner and Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore (“Cinema Paradiso”) are teaming for the $100 million English-language epic “Leningrad” at Millennium/New Image says Variety.
The story deals with the almost three year Nazi attack during WWII in the Russian city now known as St. Petersberg. It was one of the longest and most destructive sieges in history and one of the most costly in terms of casualties.
Lerner is in talks with prominent U.S. actors to play the two lead roles in the story, and is already in negotiations to sell distribution rights to a Hollywood studio.
Shooting aims to kick off in December next year once Tornatore finishes shooting a smaller Italian movie.
