Lerman, Freudenthal Set For “Percy” Sequel

Fox 2000 has reportedly exercised the option on star Logan Lerman and has hired Thor Freudenthal (“Diary of a Wimpy Kid”) to direct the sequel “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters” says The Los Angeles Times.

The film follows up the Chris Columbus-directed 2010 effort ‘The Lightning Thief’ which pulled in modest reviews and $226 million in ticket sales worldwide. Columbus is expected to produce this entry.

The film follows an ordinary boy who discovers that he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon. In this, Percy and his group of friends set out to find the mythical Golden Fleece and free a friend who has been captured.

Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (“Ed Wood,” “Agent Cody Banks”) have been brought on to write a script using Rick Riordan’s second book plus elements from other books in the series. The plan is to get into production soon enough to have the film in cinemas by sometime next year.
