Tea Leoni and David Duchovny will produce “American Dreamers”, the story of Reader’s Digest founders DeWitt Wallace and Lila Acheson Wallace reports Variety.
Based on the book by former Digest editor Peter Canning, it covers how the magazine’s idealistic goals were compromised as it grew into a juggernaut after WWII.
Taken over by a conservative agenda, both the CIA and the FBI used it as a tool whilst the founders lost themselves in rich passivity.
Hundreds of volatile pages were excised from the book before it could be published – they will be exploited in the film however. Leoni said a writer will be hired shortly.
While Leoni and Duchovny will produce, they likely won’t appear in the film.
