Leonardo DiCaprio is slated to star in “The Black Hand,” a film adaptation of the Stephan Talty novel which has been setup at Paramount Pictures, The Gotham Group and Appian Way.
A writer is currently being sought to adapt the novel about Joe Petrosino, a courageous NYPD cop who unflinchingly went after a ruthless gang that came out of Italy and into America at the turn of the 20th century and were a precursor to the American mafia.
The vicious gang kidnapped people and then extorted money from their families, while law-abiding Italian families helped Petrosino behind the scenes when they could. Petrosino would eventually be assassinated at their hands, but not before he had arrested and deported dozens of these criminals.
Jennifer Davisson, Nathaniel Posey, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell will produce. Talty also penned “A Captain’s Duty” which served as the basis for Paul Greengrass’ “Captain Phillips”.
