Abbey Lee (“The Neon Demon”) will replace series regular Elizabeth Debicki in the cast of Jordan Peele’s “Lovecraft Country” series for HBO.
The story follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father.
Based on the Matt Ruff novel from 2016, the project was ordered straight-to-series over two years ago but has floundered. Lee will now play the role of Christina Braithwaite, the only daughter of the leader of a secret order calling themselves the ‘Sons of Adam’. She has gone to great lengths to earn her father’s respect, to no avail.
Michael K. Williams, Jamie Chung, Jordan Patrick Smith, Wunmi Mosaku, Aunjanue Ellis and Jamie Harris also star. “Underground” creator Misha Green serves as writer and showrunner while J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Daniel Sackheim and Ben Stephenson executive produce.
