Lee Daniels, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are all set to develop “Sammy,” a miniseries about dancer-singer-actor-musician Sammy Davis Jr.
Producers are circling Wil Haygood’s 2003 book “In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis, Jr.” as source material. Harlem-born Davis was among the first entertainers to truly cross the white barrier in a racially charged America – but not without controversy.
There have been multiple attempts at a Sammy Davis, Jr. biopic over the years, including one by Daniels for HBO back in 2013. Paramount Pictures and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Lionel Richie were developing one last year.
