Lee Daniels Heads For The “Tropics”

Precious director Lee Daniels has signed on to direct a film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway play “Anna in the Tropics” for Mankind Entertainment says The Hollywood Reporter.

Inspired by Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, Nilo Cruz’s play follows a family of cigar rollers in 1920s Florida who find their lives changed by the power of literature.

John Torres Martinez and Joe Lamy will produce. Daniels will develop the script with Cruz starting in January, while Daniels will continue work on his civil rights project “Selma”.
