Lee Child: Cruise Getting “Too Old” For Action

Lee Child Cruise Getting Too Old For Action

Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie’s collaboration on “Jack Reacher” has some big fans, the second not so much, but however you feel about them there’s one obvious issue – Cruise looks nothing like the character described in Lee Child’s books.

Cruise himself, now 57 years old, remains an action star with the “Mission: Impossible” franchise considered arguably the best action franchise currently out there. However the ‘Reacher’ franchise is now over for him with Child recently announcing plans to reboot the property as a streaming series for Amazon.

Speaking with The Sunday Times (via IndieWire) this weekend, Child was asked about how Cruise felt that his time as Reacher had ended. Child praised Cruise’s action film skill before saying:

“Cruise was reluctant. He had his own investment in it, he was going to argue against it. It sounds extremely patronizing but I think it’s good for him. He’s too old for this stuff. He’s 57, he needs to move on, transition to being a character actor. He could get another 20 years out of it. He has the talent. He’s a terrific guy, very considerate, good fun.”

Cruise certainly isn’t slowing down as he and McQuarrie are getting to work on two back-to-back “Mission: Impossible” sequels shortly.
