“I Am Legend” director Francis Lawrence confirmed to ShockTillYouDrop.com this weekend that reshoots as recent as last month went down on his upcoming Will Smith-led sci-fi thriller.
“I’m a huge fan of pick-ups and re-shoots. There’s this misconception that it’s always a bad thing and for me it’s like saying a painter only has one shot at a brush stroke. That you can’t erase and do it again” he says.
Much of the reason was that apparently much of the film’s extensive 800 visual effects shots weren’t fully rendered until about a month ago so “The movie starts to take on a whole other life. It’s not only until later that you can judge a movie as a whole and go, ‘Huh, maybe we should shoot this little piece in the middle, or tweak this a little bit.’ It just so happened that our re-shoots revolved around the end of the movie” he adds.
He also confirmed that he would love to helm a “Constantine” sequel (or prequel) depending upon finding the right story. He says “I like origin stories, that would be cool. What worked for me is the film came from the ‘Dangerous Habits’ storyline – he had cancer and he was dying. To me that was the core of the story. It’s why the movie works for me, because the story couldn’t be more personal… Until someone comes up with a great idea, whether it’s earlier [in his life] or later, we’ll just have to see.”
