Sanaa Lathan (“Alien vs. Predator,” “Now You See Me 2”) and Shiva Negar (“Four In The Morning”) have joined the cast of Michael Cuesta’s “American Assassin” at CBS Films-Lionsgate.
Based on one of the fourteen Vince Flynn novels about counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp, the story follows the black ops recruit (Dylan O’Brien) devastated by the loss of his fiancee to a terrorist attack.
Lathan will play CIA Deputy director Irene Kennedy who assigns Rapp to Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton) the most feared training officer in the agency – at least he would be if more than a handful of people actually knew of his existence.
The pair is eventually dispatched on a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) from starting World War III in the Middle East. Should this be a franchise launcher as Lionsgate hopes, Lathan will likely return as her character is in all the novels.
