Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” looks to be scoring over $45 million in Thursday night previews, which would be the second-best preview number of all time behind only 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
The film is expected to make a domestic debut in the $200 million range over the three day weekend, easily the strongest opening of the year so far, with a further $225 million-plus expected through Sunday from overseas markets.
J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” earned a record $57 million in previews in December 2015, and went on to earn $247.9 million in its opening weekend domestically. Last year’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” nabbed $29 million in previews ahead of a $155.1 million opening weekend.
‘Last Jedi’ is also scoring superbly with critics with a 93% & 8.2/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, precisely the same score as ‘Force Awakens’. On Metacritic though it has an edge with an 86/100 compared to Force’s 81/100.
The film’s score, composed by John Williams, has also gone online and can be streamed now via Spotify.
