In a very welcome bit of recognition for a whole subset of moviemaking that often goes without, two stuntwomen got applauded at the MTV Movie & TV Awards last night.
“Captain Marvel” actress Brie Larson turned up and won the award for ‘Best Fight’ for her duel from that film between Carol Danvers and Minn-Erva.
With her acceptance speech time, Larson used the opportunity to get her trainers and stunt doubles, Renae Moneymaker and Joanna Bennett, up on stage to thank them.
Larson says: “I could not have made this film without them” and then the two women gave comments. Their appearance scored a massive cheer from the crowd.
The on-stage recognition comes as the push gets ever greater for Hollywood industries to recognise the contribution of stunt performers in terms of awards, with the idea of ‘Best Stunt’ categories at major awards shows getting wide support.
