Oscar-nominated “The Favorite” director Yorgos Lanthimos will next write and direct an adaptation of Jim Thompson’s 1964 crime novel “Pop. 1280” at Imperative Entertainment, Element Pictures and Discovery Productions.
The story follows a sheriff in a town with a population of 1280 people who presents himself as a simplistic, harmless fool. In actuality, he is a manipulative psychopath and serial killer who preys on the worst impulses of the small town folk.
Lanthimos, Andrew Lowe, Ed Guiney, Ryan Friedkin and John Alan Simon produce. Thompson’s novels like “The Killer Inside Me” and “The Grifters” have previously been adapted for the screen.
