Landis Pens New “Dirk Gently” Series Adaptation

BBC America has given an eight-episode order for a new series adaptation of the Douglas Adams novel series “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” with “Chronicle” scribe Max Landis set to pen the script.

One of the other works from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” author Adams, the series will follow the surreal adventures of the highly unconventional detective and his reluctant assistant Todd as they navigate one big metaphysical mystery per season.

In this adaptation, the character will head to the United States in a storyline envisioned by Adams that the author was working on at the time of his unexpected death.

AMC Studios, Ideate Media, IDW Entertainment and Circle of Confusion will produce the series with Landis, Arvind Ethan David, Zainir Aminullah, Ted Adams, David Ozer, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs all serving as executive producers.

The project is separate from the four-episode BBC UK adaptation of the property that screened in 2010 and 2012 which starred Stephen Mangan and Darren Boyd.
