Scribe Richard LaGravenese (“P.S. I Love You”) has been hired to adapt the Laura Hillenbrand bestseller “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” for Universal Pictures says Risky Biz Blog.
The story follows Louis Zamperini, a former Olympian and WWII bombadier whose plane crashed at sea in 1943. He and two crewmates were adrift for 47 days and until he was caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a POW camp where he was specifically targeted by a sadistic overseer.
Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend”) is attached to direct, the pair having previously worked on the adaptation of “Water for Elephants” opening next month. Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”) was previously in talks to write the script.
