Former “ER” star Eriq La Salle has confirmed that sadly he will not be appearing in the upcoming “Coming 2 America,” the sequel to the classic 1988 Eddie Murphy-led comedy “Coming to America”.
In the original film, La Salle played Darryl Jenks – the obnoxious boyfriend of Lisa McDowell who becomes the love interest and eventual wife of Murphy’s royal prince Akeem. Darryl was famously decked out in ‘Soul Glo,’ a famously greasy Jheri curl-esque hairspray with a still well remembered commercial jingle.
La Salle marks one of the few talents from the original who won’t be returning, instead he’s busy with the drama series “Chicago P.D.” which he executive produces and directs. He tells The Grio: “No… I’ve already given you an answer. No… Straight to the point. I knew where you were going with it… I’m a little busy right now… with this show.”
“Coming 2 America” will be set in the modern-day with Prince Akeem travelling back to the United States to find his long-lost son. Murphy, Shari Headley, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, John Amos, Louie Anderson, Paul Bates, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and Garcelle Beauvais will all reprise their roles.
Leslie Jones, Rick Ross, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, KiKi Layne, and Wesley Snipes will also star in the film which is set to premiere in theaters on December 18th 2020.
