Kurosawa’s Death Gets Animated

Harbor Light Entertainment and Lotus, who announced plans for a “Rashomon” remake”, are also planning to turn the unproduced Akira Kurosawa 1977 script “The Masque of Black Death” into an animated feature says Variety.

Set in Russia in the early 20th century, “The Masque of Black Death” depicts a disease that kills most of the population.

Kurosawa planned to have Japanese anime auteur Osamu Tezuka make the pic, but the project never got off the ground before Kurosawa’s death in 1998.

The film will hit theaters in 2010 as part of a 100th anniversary celebration of Kurosawa’s birth.
