“Kung Fu Panda” film series director Jennifer Yuh Nelson is stepping into the live-action realm with a new feature adaptation of Alexandra Bracken’s young adult trilogy “Darkest Minds” at 20th Century Fox.
The story combines superhero conventions, horror elements and coming-of-age stories. Effectively it’s being pitched as “Stand By Me” meets “The Walking Dead”.
Set after a pandemic kills most of America’s children and teenagers, some survivors develop various superpowers and are deemed too dangerous for society.
They’re soon taken from their families and placed inside internment camps. One sixteen-year-old with telekinetic powers escapes her camp and joins a group of teens on the run from the government. Shawn Levy is producing.
