Just hours after it was announced that Jack Nicholson would take the lead male role, his first leading screen role in ten years, actress Kristen Wiig has reportedly scored the female lead in the English-language remake of last year’s German dramedy “Toni Erdmann”.
Paramount Pictures has reportedly acquired the remake rights with Nicholson and Wiig now attached to star. Wiig will also produce alongside Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum of Gloria Sanchez Productions.
Sandra Huller and Peter Simonischek starred in the original as practical joking father who tries to reconnect with his hard working daughter by creating an outrageous alter ego and posing as her CEO’s life coach.
Maren Ade, who penned and directed the original, will executive produce the remake along with producers Jonas Dornbach and Janine Jackowski. A director and writer are still being sought.
