Kretschmann Talks His “Avengers” Villain

As previously reported, German actor Thomas Kretschmann is set to play Baron Von Strucker in the upcoming “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

The character has been described as a secondary villain that will appear in the film’s early scenes and is rumored to be a key part of the introduction of new characters Quicksilver (Aaron Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).

Recently, Kretschmann spoke with B.Z. Berlin about the role and confirmed that he has signed a multi-picture deal with Marvel which seems to indicate Von Strucker will be around for a while:

“I have a multi-picture deal which means I will not only appear in the 2nd part, but they’re planning with me for a longer period of time. But I don’t know details yet, they’re keeping their cards close to their chest – top secret!”

Kretschmann was also asked if he was nervous about performing in such a major tentpole film, a project he indicates he’s already done some work on:

“Oh yes, I was nervous. I was over prepared; then on the set I went up to Joss Whedon, who passes for a genius, and said ‘this is my first day, this is huge, please have patience with me, I’m a bit nervous.'”

While some secondary filming in South Africa has already taken place, actual filming with major cast members isn’t slated to begin until later this month. Could the rumors of his cameo during the “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” credits have merit?
