“Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine hasn’t yet begun shooting his next film, “The Beach Bum,” despite reports earlier this year of a filming start date in July.
Matthew McConaughey is slated to star in the stoner comedy which will follow the misadventures of the rebellious and lovable rogue Moondog which has been dubbed a cross between “Scarecrow” and a “Cheech and Chong” entry.
Speaking with Telerama about it, Korine also revealed some new details about his proposed plans for the film’s release which includes smell-o-vision style select screenings:
“It’s a comedy with Matthew McConaughey and Snoop Dogg, about somewhat depressive marijuana smokers, in the spirit of Cheech and Chong. The action takes place in Key West, in the extreme south of Florida. I would very much like to see the film, when it’s released, be shown in rooms that spread curls of marijuana [smoke]. It is possible in some states, such as California, that have legalized this drug for [medical use]. We already have about thirty rooms that have accepted.”
With no production date as yet, there’s no clear idea as to when to expect the films or the screenings of them.
