They were the favorites a few weeks ago, but now they’re confirmed – “Kon-Tiki” filmmakers Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg have entered negotiations to direct the fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” feature at Disney Pictures.
The duo beat out the likes of Rupert Sanders (“Snow White and the Huntsman”) and Fredrik Bond (“The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman”) for the gig.
As a result though, they’ve departed the supernatural “Black Hawk Down”-esque thriller “Spectral” at Legendary Pictures to which they’ve been attached. Now, commercials director Nic Mathieu is in talks to direct that film.
The fifth ‘Pirates’ is currently targeting a July 10th 2015 release.
