Knight Rises Scores $249M Global Haul

Box-office reporting took on a somber mood on Monday in the wake of the tragedy in Denver.

Warner Bros. Pictures has confirmed that “The Dark Knight Rises” debuted with $249 million in worldwide ticket sales, of which $160.9 million came from North America.

That’s the third-highest domestic opening of all time, just ahead of the $158 million opening for “The Dark Knight” and the biggest opening weekend for a non 3D feature to date.

No-one, including the studio, is inclined to discuss the statistics further – or what potential impact the shooting and its subsequent news media coverage had on the film’s sales.
