“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” stars Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins are set to join the live-action “John Carter of Mars” film adaptation for Disney Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on “Tarzan” author Edgar Rice Burroughs classic sci-fi pulp stories, “Carter” centers on a civil war veteran who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where his involvement with warring races of the dying planet force him to rediscover his humanity.
Kitsch (“The Covenant,” TV’s “Friday Night Lights”) will play the title character, while Collins (TV’s “True Blood,” “Uncertainty”) is playing Dejah Thoris, heir to the throne of Mars’ Helium kingdom.
Andrew Stanton (“Wall-E”) wrote the screenplay with Mark Andrews and will direct. Jim Morris and Colin Wilson are producing. Filming aims to kick off in November and will shoot partly in Utah.
