Kit Harington, Liv Tyler, Peter Mullan and Mark Gatiss are set to star in BBC One’s three-part Guy Fawkes-inspired historical thriller “Gunpowder”.
The true story tale deals with the Gunpowder Plot, the 1605 attempt by a group of provincial English Catholics to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I in order to help restore a Catholic to the throne. The plot was foiled on November 5th that year when authorities at Westminster Palace found Fawkes guarding the explosives.
Harington will play his direct ancestor Robert Catesby, a 30-year old Warwickshire gentleman who devised the plan. Tyler plays his cousin Anne Vaux, Gatiss plays spymaster-in-chief Robert Cecil, and Mullan plays sympathetic to the cause Jesuit Father Garnet.
Harington will also executive produce the project with shooting slated to begin this month. Ronan Bennett (“Hidden,” “Top Boy”) penned the script for Kudos and Thriker Films, with J Blakeson set to helm.
