Sir Ben Kingsley (“Shutter Island”), Sacha Baron Cohen (“Borat”), Asa Butterfield (“The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”) and Chloe Moretz (“Kick-Ass”) have all joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” for GK Films says Deadline Hollywood.
Based on Brian Selznick’s children’s fantasy novel, the story is set in the 1930’s and follows an orphan (Butterfield) who lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station maintaining the clocks. Attempting to repair a mechanical man, he becomes caught up in a strange adventure.
Kingsley will play silent filmmaker George Melies, Cohen will play the station inspector and Moretz will play the female lead role of Isabelle.
The project was put into turnaround by Warner Bros. Pictures, so distribution plans are still being worked out.
