The latest bit of “Doctor Who” casting in the UK Tabloids has Ben Kingsley up for the role of long-running megalomaniacal villain Davros.
The Sun reports that Kingsley is in final negotiations for the part of the scarred Kaled scientist who created the Dalek race and served as a foe for the Doctor throughout the 70’s and 80’s.
The fourth year of the revived “Doctor Who” series, starting next spring, is set to be the last headed by Russell T Davies who successfully relaunched the show in 2005.
Due to that, many big names are being sought for guest roles in the upcoming season. Whether the Sun’s report is accurate though is hard to say – early tabloid rumors for the show have often been wrong (final season, return of the Rani, James Nesbitt casting), but at times have been spot on (Minogue & Simm’s casting).
If it goes ahead, Kingsley will fit filming around his wedding in September to his third wife Daniela Lavender.
“Coupling” creator/showrunner Stephen Moffat, who has penned the most acclaimed episodes of the restarted series (Blink, The Girl in the Fireplace, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances), is the frontrunner to take over producing duties on the series.
