He broke through with “The Witch” and his acclaimed Lovecraft-esque shanty tale “The Lighthouse” opens this Friday. Now filmmaker Robert Eggers is assembling an all star cast for his next feature, the grounded revenge tale “The Northman” which has been set up at New Regency.
“Big Little Lies” stars Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard, the latter’s younger brother and “IT” star Bill Skarsgard, and two of the three stars of Eggers’ previous films – Anya Taylor-Joy and Willem Dafoe – are all in talks to join the project.
The story is dubbed a Viking revenge saga set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century and follows a Nordic prince who seeks revenge for the death of his father. Eggers penned the screenplay with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjon based on an idea by the elder Skarsgard. Lars Knudsen (“Hereditary,” “Midsommar”) will produce.
