Nicole Kidman is reportedly in talks to play former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson in “Fair and Balanced,” the new film about disgraced Fox News chief Roger Ailes for Annapurna Pictures.
Additionally, Margot Robbie is also in talks to join the cast of the film but is tipped to play a fictional character instead of a real person. The pair joins Charlize Theron who is already onboard to play Megyn Kelly.
Carlson’s career at Fox was launched by Roger Ailes and it’s her and Megyn Kelly’s sexual harassment allegations that helped contribute to his departure. The movie will focus on the rise and fall of Ailes’ career at Fox News and his influence in Republican circles.
Other characters in the film include Greta Van Susteren, Rupert Murdoch, and Bill O’Reilly. Jay Roach helms the film from a script by Charles Randolph. Roach, Theron, Randolph, Beth Kong, AJ Dix and Margaret Riley are producing.
The project isn’t to be confused with Showtime’s upcoming limited series adaptation of Gabriel Sherman’s novel “The Loudest Voice in the Room” which is also about Ailes. That series has Kidman’s “Boy Erased” co-star Russell Crowe set to play Ailes.
