BBC America has announced that Kevin Smith has signed on to write, direct, and executive produce a TV series based on the Image Comics title “Sam and Twitch”.
The characters were first introduced in the Spawn comics, a pair of homicide detectives were so popular they got their own title in 1999 which explores how they solve occult-related crimes in a dark and violent version of New York City.
BBC America president Sarah Barnett says Smith is “beyond himself excited” about the series which will have both a crime-of-the-week format, and season-long storylines.
It’s not clear if “Spawn” creator Todd McFarlane is involved in the series or if there’s any involvement of other characters from the “Spawn” universe. No production timetable has yet been scheduled either.
Both characters were previously brought to the screen on HBO’s “Spawn” animated series which is currently available on HBO Now.
