One of the more unexpected announcements this week was that Will Smith had entered negotiations to take on the role of the Genie in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of their 1992 classic “Aladdin”.
It turns out though that he wasn’t the first actor whom Disney wanted for the part. Comedian Kevin Hart was reportedly approached by the Mouse House before Smith according to Variety reporter Justin Kroll on Twitter.
No word as yet on why Kevin Hart didn’t end up going for the role. Guy Ritchie is helming the film from a script by John August. Filming kicks off in the U.K. this June.
