Kenneth Branagh has signed on to develop and is attached to direct an adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s popular young adult novel “Artemis Fowl” for Disney Pictures.
The series follows the brilliant and cunning 12-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl II, whose plot to extort gold from the secret Fairy People puts him directly in the cross-hairs of some of Earth’s most dangerous creatures on earth.
Irish playwright Conor McPherson in talks to pen the script, but is not yet signed. The project has been in limbo for a few years, but now seems to have some serious heat behind it. Harvey Weinstein and Branagh are attached to produce.
Branagh is currently planning to direct a new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Murder at the Orient Express” at 20th Century Fox.
