Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says that the key difference between the upcoming ‘core’ “Star Wars” films and the various ‘A Star Wars Story’ spin-offs is that the big ‘Episodes’ seal with one particular story thread.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD
Speaking with the Costco Connection, Kennedy revealed that the core movies are considered the ‘Saga’ films by Lucasfilm, with the spin-offs being called ‘Anthology’ films. What’s the main difference between the two?
“The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe.”
Tying into that today, Yahoo Movies has revealed a new web comic from Korean artist Hong Jacga which was done in collaboration with Lucasfilm – meaning it is in canon.
The comics, which just got English-language debuts today, deal with the early life of a young Luke Skywalker stating with him at just seven years old. The first three issues are up at Webtoons.com.
Fan anticipation for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is palpable with a new survey by Harris Interactive (via Variety) saying that 63% if “Star Wars” fans say they expect the new film to be the best movie in the franchise to date.
