Kenan On “Poltergeist,” Wyatt Off “Equalizer”

MGM has secured “City of Ember” and “Monster House” helmer Gil Kenan to direct the remake of Tobe Hooper’s 1982 supernatural classic “Poltergeist”.

The original, and the reboot, follow a family whose dream house turns into a nightmare. The project has also setup an original project, “A Giant,” at Lava Bear and The Henson Company.

In other director news, Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet Of the Apes”) has broken off talks to direct “The Equalizer” reboot at Sony Pictures.

Wyatt left due to scheduling issues, and Sony is hurrying to find a replacement helmer.
