Keaton Back On For “Spider-Man” Villain

Having previously passed on the opportunity, Michael Keaton is now in final negotiations to play the villain in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.

According to the trades, Marvel made initial overtures towards Keaton which didn’t get past the offer stage. The dispute occurred after Robert Downey was added to the cast to reprise his role of Tony Stark, which meant at the time it looked as if the studio wouldn’t be able to afford both talents.

With Downey’s deal now closed and Marvel having briefly considered other actors, they soon returned to Keaton and found a way to hammer out a deal which is in its final stages. If a deal closes, Keaton will join both Downey, Marisa Tomei and Tom Holland who is set to play the webslinger in the Jon Watts-directed film. It’s unclear which villain he’ll play in the new film though Adrian Toomes (The Vulture) has previously been rumored.

An apparent detailed synopsis for the film leaked onto 4chan (via ScreenGeek report suggesting Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin from the “Daredevil” series will make an appearance in the film.JoBlo meanwhile suggests The Tinkerer will be a secondary villain who helps procure recovered Chitauri tech from the battle of New York to aid The Vulture.

For now, treat all the non-Keaton talk as just pure speculation.
