It has been over for nearly two weeks now, but AMC’s “Breaking Bad” is still making headlines.
First up, Variety reports that Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed at the MIPCOM conference in Cannes last month that he offered $75 million to the show’s creators for three more episodes.
He then wanted to release the additional episodes, in six minute segments, online over the course of a month and make people pay for each one:
I had this crazy idea. I was nuts for the show. I had no idea where this season was going. The last series cost about $3.5 million an episode. So they would make more profit from these three shows than they made from five years of the entire series. I said (to them), ‘I’m going to create the greatest pay-per-view television event for scripted programming anybody’s ever done.

While Katzenberg was a fan, one person who wasn’t is filmmaker Oliver Stone who had big issues with the finale. He told Forbes:
“I don’t know if you saw the denouement [of ‘Breaking Bad’], I happen to not watch the series very much, but I happened to tune in and I saw the most ridiculous 15 minutes of a movie – it would be laughed off the screen.”
The scene he’s referring to is the final fifteen minutes with Walt taking out Jack’s neo-Nazi gang with a custom rigged, automated M60 machine gun in his car trunk.
Turns out it wasn’t the violence of the scene in question that was the problem, it was its lack of believability:
“Nobody could park his car right then and there and could have a machine gun that could go off perfectly and kill all of the bad guys! It would be a joke.
it’s only in the movies that you find this kind of fantasy violence. And that’s infected the American culture; you young people believe all of this shit! Batman and Superman, you’ve lost your minds, and you don’t even know it!
At least respect violence. I’m not saying don’t show violence, but show it with authenticity.”
